The Master’s Academy, a Community Christian School in Oviedo, FL, started the 2016 – 2017 school year with a new Performing Arts Center. How exciting is that?

The PAC is a multi-purpose facility that houses two theatre spaces: an oversized stage with seating for 600+ and the Judi Tome Black Box Theatre.

The mainstage is outfitted with a theatrical draperies package manufactured and installed by IAStage. The package consists of a classic red main drape on a travel track, three masking borders, two sets of legs, an upstage traveler, and a cyclorama with a chain pocket that, in addition to providing an ideal surface for lighting, serves to divide the performance area from the upstage cross-over/work area. All soft goods are dead-hung, inherently flame retardant, and thus, low maintenance.

The black box theatre, with a standard pipe grid, offers students and faculty the flexibility of an open studio space. The space can be utilized for rehearsals, performances, and classroom activities.

Mrs. Morgan Matos, Director of Theatre Arts, and her students had become used to preparing productions without a permanent space. With cast sizes of up to 80 students, Matos said that “working in our gym lobby was quite a challenge.” Now that the new PAC is open, she says, “Having somewhere to call home with so many different creative options is thrilling. It is uniquely ours and we are going to rock it.”

The first large production on the mainstage will be Fiddler on the Roof, opening October 28. We’ll keep an eye out for production photos to share.
