The new Humanities building at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee is slated to open this summer. The $30.5 million facility will be the largest on campus, consolidating several Humanities programs into one location. The three-story, 80,000 square foot building will encompass 44 classrooms and labs, 56 offices, an art gallery, a computer lab, a recording studio, music practice space, a pottery and kiln area, dance and theatre studios, and a flexible black box space. The facility’s combined instructional, administrative, and public spaces are expected to accommodate up to 1,484 people. The Nashville office of Moody Nolan are the architects for the project. Messer Construction Co. serves as general contractor for the building, and they will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification after construction is completed.

InterAmerica Stage, Inc. supplied a 1,105 sq ft SkyDeck™ wire tension grid system for the two-story Flex Space. This versatile room will be capable of being used by the Humanities programs for classes, performances, and other department events. The combination of an open floor plan below and SkyDeck™ above will provide a very flexible working space, and allow lighting, audio, and other support equipment to be quickly and safely maintained and reset as required for each occasion.
