SkyDeck tension wire grid hidden in the architecture at Olin Business School

It has been a year since the completion of the Olin Business School expansion project of the Knight Hall and Bauer Hall at Washington University St. Louis. The two halls achieved LEED Gold certification for green design and construction. One of the noteworthy features of the project is the glass-enclosed room that connects the two halls. SkyDeck tension wire grid was chosen to provide safe access for the overhead lighting. SkyDeck is so transparent and thin-profiled it does not disrupt the overall design and allows uninterrupted flow of abundant natural light to the floors below.

The Olin Business School expansion project team was also awarded the 2014 Construction Industry Best Practices Award for materials management and front-end planning. The award, which is presented by St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers, recognizes those who demonstrate successful use of best practices in the construction industry validated by the Construction Industry Institute. The members of the award-winning team include Mackey Mitchell Architects; Moore Ruble Yudell Architects & Planners; Talton; BuroHappold Engineering; Cole; KPFF Consulting Engineers; William Tao & Associates Inc.; and more than 50 subcontractors.

In addition, Talton Corporation has won one of the construction industry’s highest honors – the 2015 Alliant Build America Awards. The award is sponsored by Alliant Insurance Services, Inc. and the Associated General Contractors of America, the nation’s largest and oldest construction trade association. The award recognizes AGC members for projects that have “excelled in state-of-the-art advancements; excellence in project management; innovation in construction or use of materials; contribution to the community; superiority in client service; rising to the challenge of a difficult job; and sensitive treatment of the environment and surroundings.”
