The Arts Club Theatre

As the largest theatre company in Western Canada, The Arts Club Theatre is a unique non-profit group showcasing their excellent work on multiple stages.  In 2015, work completed on the BMO Theatre Center in Vancouver, BC.  The venue is a new $20.4-million-dollar complex housing four rehearsal theatres, costume making facilities, and offices for both The Arts Club Theatre and Bard on the Beach.

Both groups have had longstanding relationships with BMO Financial Group, who donated $1.5 million to the project.  BMO Financial Group has a 12-year relationship with The Arts Club through their support as a Presenting Sponsor and Season Partner.  Likewise, Bard on the Beach and the BMO Financial Group maintains a strong connection through their sponsorship as a Mainstage Naming Sponsor and as a longtime Education Program sponsor.

The 48,000 square-foot building was designed by Proscenium Architecture + Interiors, Inc. with Schick, Shiner, and Associates serving as Theatre Consultant.  The General Contractor for the construction of the building was ITC Construction Group.  Funding for the new space came from donations with generous contributions from many companies, including a $500,000 donation by Goldcorp to the project.   This donation allowed for the development of the new Goldcorp Stage, a black box theatre known for its state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.  The new theatre space has 250 seats and will allow for both companies to grow their production capabilities as well as their education and training programs.

The highly flexible space has been fitted with a new SkyDeck system.  The SkyDeck system extends over top the performance space for a total of 2,500 square feet and is made of 86 panels.  With SkyDeck in place, the new Goldcorp Stage is up to date with the latest technology in walking platforms and safety.  It also fit best for the lighting and sound elements of the space.  The SkyDeck system offers the most flexibility for creative lighting designs with the upmost safety, which is crucial in the open flow of black box theatres.
