Indiana University’s Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance is dedicated to advancing art, scholarship and appreciation of the performing arts.  They are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre and is a member of the University/Resident Theatre Association and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.

In 2011, IU renovated the Theatre Building and connected it to their 2002 constructed Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center.  This created a large, state-of-the-art building to house their classrooms, offices, studios, and performance spaces.  MGA Partners, LLC served as architect for the renovations.

The Studio Theatre, a black box facility, offers limited but flexible seating.  The space houses independent student productions as well as experimental projects run by faculty and staff.  Their Department website states this space is one of the “centerpieces of this newest renovation to the facility” and a “very strong teaching space”.

InterAmerica Stage, Inc. installed a 1000 square foot SkyDeck™ system in the Studio Theatre.  It fully covers the space and is easily accessible through stairways.  With its full coverage and safe access, it is an ideal teaching space for faculty and students.
