We’ve just installed a pipe grid and a SkyDeck™ in the Ohio State University’s beautiful Sullivant Hall as part of a two year-long renovation project. The renovation was scheduled to be complete in Fall of 2013 and occupants of the building should be moved in by January, 2014.

“The crown jewel of the building [is] a state-of-the-art, flexible performance space in the center of the building on the third floor,” said Susan Petry, Chair of the Department of Dance. “The roof [was] raised to provide natural light during the day, and a dynamic black box performance space at night.” And yes, you guessed it: the crown jewel of the building was outfitted with a SkyDeck™.

The pipe grid was installed in Room 350, which is a new dance studio, and was hung above the building’s existing steel structure. Normally, pipe grids are attached below the structural steel but we went above to allow maximum flexibility lighting and a comfortable ceiling height.

Both spaces are located on the 3rd floor of Sullivant Hall, requiring a crane to carefully lift the SkyDeck™ panels and heavy 1 1/2″ schedule 40 pipe through a window. Check out OSU’s write-up. It includes some great interior and exterior construction shots.
